Sanhocho Aquatic Sanctuary
Hello and welcome to our little coral reef!
Here you can find all the information about or facility and our animals!
About Us
Back in 2005 this was a small resceue center helping beached animals, however with our first disabled Dolphin we suddenly stood in front of a big change.
We decided to build a tank and try to rehabilitate him, however, his injuries were so severe that he couldn't be released back into the wild, therefore setting the stepstone of our new future 'Sanhocho Aquatic Sanctuary'
S.A.S for short
The Reef Habitat
This tank hosts all our Dolphins and fish creating a vast and impressive environment with multiple animals. Do not worry, all carnivores are fed well enough to not be required to hunt.
Trellia ✝
Female - Phin Singer - Released
This mutated Dolphin was one of our very first residences in our facility. Our researchers have tried to study her and her species, however, due to multiple incidences we have shifted our focus to release instead of studying her species.
She had a rough encounter with a fishing boat, causing her to lose her pectoral fin, however, provided with a sturdy new tec prosthetic alongside a maintenance drone, she was able to be released again. Her last known vital signs received on the 22nd March 2022.
May you rest in the endless ocean.✝ 22. March 2022
Grandpa Pablo
Male - Bottlenose Dolphin - permanent
or Pablo for short,
he is one of the first arrivals of our Aquarium and our very first permanent resident!
Similar to Trellia he has lost his Pectoral fin in a fishing net. But unlike the female, he was not able to succeed in his survival tests, and, therefore deemed not releasable.
Pablo is part of a project that aims to teach children that life goes on and that you can survive and have fun even if you're body is limited.Do not be alarmed if you see barnacles grow on him!
due to the natural components and the bioactive environment of his tank, we clean him regularly but it appears he likes to have them on his skin and will often fight the Staff if they try to clean him, haha.Pablo has been deemed the mascot of Sanhocho Aquatic Sanctuary by the media.
DISCLAIMER: do not throw trash into the exclosures!
Our Mission
Our mission is to rescue rehabilitate and release animals once they are able to survive in the wild again!
Unfortunately, we are not able to give every animal their freedom back, however, we strive to make their forever home to the best of our abilities with lots of enrichment.
If we are not capable of caring for an animal like they deserve they will be moved to affiliated partners that have the resources to care for them better then we can.As of 2016 we are proud affiliates of the ''clean the oceans'' project and 70% of donations to S.A.S will be donated to that project.
FAQ
Q:)
Where did the name 'Sanhocho Aquatic Sanctuary' come from?A:)
Back in the day, we were following a pod of strange-looking Dolphins. Since they were so colorful we named them 'Coral Reef Pod' however, the daughter of our lead researchers called 'Ego' suggested the name 'Sanhocho Pod' instead, as it's the Korean word for Coral Reef.
Q:)
Who was the first animal you have rehabilitated?A:)
We had a female dolphin in our care that belonged to the 'Aqrion' genus, she lost her pectoral fin and we built her a prosthetic alongside a maintenance drone so she would be able to survive on her own without human interference.
Q:)
Why is it not possible for Pablo to return to the wild?A:)
Not only did Pablo lose his pectoral fin, but he also injured his melon, causing his echolocation to deteriorate. We tried to restore and strengthen his echolocation, however, we were not able to. Without his echolocation, he would not be able to return to the wild.
